What is the difference in Lagree and Pilates?

Lagree fitness on the Megaformer is one of the fastest growing fitness trends in the workout industry today. The Lagree method is a multifaceted workout engaging multiple muscles at the same time. The low impact but high intensity classes allow for maximum calorie burn.

MEGAFORMER VS REFORMER

Sebastien Lagree did gain his inspiration for the Megaformer from the traditional Pilates Reformer, however the Megaformer has double the amount of springs as the reformer providing maximum intensity in all of the movements. The Megaformer carriage is also wider, lighter and has eyelets to allow for foot positioning to incorporate various exercises. Many exercises are also done standing to allow for full body engagement and stability and balance training.

CLASS PACE:

Lagree classes are composed of slow controlled movements focusing on multiple muscle groups for maximum effect. Pilates focuses on faster movements not using multiple groups at the same time. Engaging multiple muscles in a shorter period of time allows your body to continue to burn fat after you have finished working out. This is known as EPOC. Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC). This occurs after muscles are forced to work harder to build oxygen stores back up. This results in more calories burned than if you had exercised for a longer period with less intensity. Post workout your body has to work harder to clear away the lactic acid resulting in continued calorie burn.

CLASS TRANSITIONS:

In Lagree classes the transitions to each exercise happen quickly to minimize downtime. This allows for more exercise time and less rest time helping to get the client to muscle failure faster. In Pilates, breaks are typically taken between each set of exercises and set up times for the next exercise happens slower.

BALANCE TRAINING/MUSCLE FOCUS:

Many of the exercises are performed standing on the Megaformer for full body engagement and maximum core and balance training. A stronger core is directly related to better balance, which is essential for maintaining long term health. Lagree classes target multiple muscle groups at one time for a full body workout. While doing a leg exercise you will also be engaging your core and using weights for upper body as well.

At Sculpted Body, we know that the days of gender based workouts are over, just as Sebastien Lagree, creator of the Megaformer, knows that both women and men can hugely benefit from his Lagree method core based full body workout.

Intensity: Is the amount of effort or energy required to do the work. Sculpted Body classes are very intense but minimize the stress on the joints and the spine. In addition, it’s very easy to increase the intensity on the Megaformer™
